Sports in India

Sports have always been an important part of the country’s entertainment and culture. People are passionate about sports in India. Although hockey is officially the national sport in India, cricket is highly revered and deeply connected to the hearts of sports fans. Apart from cricket and hockey, there are several sports such as football, badminton, tennis, wrestling, chess, etc. which are popular among sports fans. Cricket

In fact, it is practiced at every corner of cities and towns with immense passion and zeal. The country has participated in several international cricket tournaments including the Cricket World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy and Twenty20 World Cup. Some of the legends of cricket are revered internationally, such as Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Mahender Singh Dhoni, etc. All cricket matches are regularly broadcast live on TV, so if you enjoy the sport, you will not miss any excitement. Soccer

Football is quite popular in INDIA. The football federation in India has been associated with FIFA since 1948. This sport is played in the country on several scales. The best teams come from the state of Bengal (east of India), thanks to the sincere efforts of the local sports authorities. The national team often participates in the Asian Games football tournament. Although the national football team in India is ranked 156 by FIFA, it is still the second most played and followed sport in India.

Hockey

Hockey is the national sport in India. The country won the international title at the 1975 World Cup tournament in Malaysia. Over the years, the country’s sporting authorities have shown interest in improving the status of the game internationally.

Tennis

It’s been a few years since tennis gained international fame in the country’s sports federation. The Indian sports authorities have also taken initiatives to promote this game internationally. The International Premier Tennis League, launched in 2015, aims to promote tennis at the same level as the Grand Slam and other international tournaments. Prominent tennis players like Sania Mirza, Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna have represented India in international matches and have won world records.
